1876

On February 15, 1876, voters ratified the current Constitution of Texas, which remains the state's governing document today. It was designed by a post-Reconstruction Democratic majority to drastically reduce state government power, lower taxes, and shorten terms of office following the 1875 Constitutional Convention.
